Player of the Week

Bobby Johns

After an outstanding career at Birmingham’s Banks High School, Bobby Johns arrived in Tuscaloosa in 1964 with visions of becoming the next great Alabama quarterback. Unfortunately, several other talented athletes, including Kenny Stabler, had the same idea, so Johns was moved to defense, where he became one of the best defensive backs ever to play for Alabama. In three varsity seasons, he recorded 11 interceptions and made a long line of receivers pay a stiff price after the catch. Few Alabama defenders have ever played the pass as well as Johns (1965-67), a two-time All-American and three-time All-SEC selection on teams that finished 28-3-2.
