For as long as Alabama fans talk about their memories, it will remain part of the tapestry of Crimson Tide history: During Alabama’s 28-10 victory over Notre Dame at Legion Field in 1986, linebacker Cornelius Bennett charged through the line to slam Irish quarterback Steve Beuerlein to the turf. It was one of the most thunderous licks in Bama history—forever known as The Sack, thanks in large part to the commemorative Daniel A. Moore print it inspired. Bennett, a native of Birmingham, started four years for Ray Perkins’ Crimson Tide (1983-86), becoming a two-time All-America and one of the greatest linebackers in school history.
